Cybersecurity Services in Africa: Protect the Workflow Customers Depend On
A convincing fraudulent email can interrupt trade as effectively as a delayed shipment. For technology providers entering African markets, a useful cybersecurity offer starts with a business process that customers need to protect: supplier payments, order processing, access to cloud accounts or recovery after an outage.
JOTS Group is a Ghana based holding company and Africa opportunity entry platform. The developments below are verified facts; the proposed commercial approach is JOTS analysis.
What recent evidence shows
On 3 August 2026, INTERPOL published findings from its African Cyberthreat Assessment Report 2026, drawing on survey data from 36 African member countries. It reported AI involvement in 55% of reported cybercrimes and highlighted increasingly convincing business-email-compromise schemes. Reported incidents are not a measure of every attack or every company’s exposure.
In an announcement dated 9 August 2026, ECOWAS described a SIM3 auditor training programme for 38 cybersecurity professionals in Lomé, scheduled for 4–6 August. Its focus was the maturity of incident-response teams. This demonstrates institutional attention to response capability; it is not an open procurement invitation or evidence that any commercial supplier has official endorsement.
Sell a defined operational service
Choose one customer segment and one workflow. An importer may need to verify supplier bank-detail changes; a distributor may need dependable access to orders and inventory. Identify who owns the process, how staff work today and what disruption would mean. Threat statistics alone do not establish a budget or a buying decision.
A bounded service could combine account-security configuration, payment-verification procedures, backup recovery exercises and staff training. Define the systems covered, the deliverables, support hours and escalation contacts. Promise work that can be demonstrated rather than an undefined level of protection.
International software vendors may need local implementation and support partners. Local service firms may need specialist expertise for complex incidents. Check actual qualifications, references, staffing and response capacity before offering a joint package. Do not present an ordinary reseller relationship as a security certification.
Make trust part of delivery
Obtain written authorisation before assessing customer systems and agree the scope of any testing. Specify access permissions, data handling, subcontractors, retention and secure handover. Have qualified local advisers confirm applicable privacy, sector and licensing obligations. The provider’s own accounts and support processes must also be protected.
For payment workflows, agree how staff independently confirm sensitive changes using established contact details. For continuity, define the data that must be restored and demonstrate recovery in a controlled exercise. For monitoring, state who reviews alerts and what happens outside normal working hours. Software installation alone is not an operating service.
Price for ongoing responsibility
Include onboarding, licences, monitoring time, training refreshers, support and incident-response boundaries in the economics. Distinguish routine support from chargeable emergency work. Specify service measures such as coverage of agreed accounts, recovery-exercise results and response times; none amounts to a guarantee that a breach cannot occur.
Actionable takeaway
Interview three firms in one sector about a recurring payment or continuity problem. Offer a paid assessment of one workflow, followed by a limited pilot with written acceptance criteria. Use the results and the customer’s willingness to fund ongoing support to decide whether to expand.
